About THE METa Gallery
In modern terms, the word META means self-referential; explicitly aware of oneself as a member of its category. Because Ben Steele’s artwork often starts with a familiar launch point, art icon or pop culture phenomenon, The Meta seemed like the perfect moniker for a modern space that is striving to parody, honor and expand on what has come before (and it didn’t hurt that Steele’s favorite museum is The Met).
